Black People and The Boondocks

I haven't yet figured out why black folks are so offended by Aaron McGruders comic strip come to "life" The Boondocks, which airs Sunday nights on AdultSwim. Everything you see in that one half hour show wraps up a weeks work of BS that you catch sitting around watching BET (or as I call the Bet-not Network, as in they Bet-not show that award show again). The main characters Huey, Riley, and Granddad all remind me of people I know. And I bet there are more people besides me that can relate to these characters. I think Black people are used to The Simpsons, Family Guy, and American Dad. I like those shows, but they're fictional and I can't relate to that mess. Of course, it's a cartoon, so things will be animated, no pun intended. The Boondocks confronts everyday issues that our race is confronted with, and in my opinion, it does it quite humorously. The R. Kelly episode was funny as heck.



What we need to do is support our people for the right reasons. Be happy that Aaron McGruder isn't afraid to be controversial. Be happy there are cartoons that look like us in primetime. Shoot, be happy that Aaron McGruder didn't decide to take his talent and work for the creators of The Simpsons. Those are the buffoons. I say Riley Freeman an'nem are a step up from Bart an'nem.
